Setting up Google Workspace for Nonprofits

Would you believe that you could have an enterprise-tier administration tool for FREE? Well, if you are a nonprofit, you can with Google Workspace.

With practically unlimited user accounts, free 30GB storage for all users, groups, calendars, Gmail, and management of all Google services in one place, I would almost consider this a must for a modern nonprofit. With Google Workspace, you can also set up custom URLs for your Google Sites, allowing for a properly-branded URL rather than appearing as a subset of the actual Google Sites website. Making the most of what Google Workspace has to offer will take your money very far, as you will see in the other examples below.

We have set up a Google Workspace for Nonprofits instance from scratch for one of our clients, where there was no such system in place previously.

Moving from Wordpress and Wix to Google Sites

This one is an important one, in my experience. Wordpress is insecure, messy, difficult to navigate, and costs money to use more than just the basic features. They even charge you to set up a domain redirect! We used to have all of our sites on Wordpress, but the consensus is that it's just not worth it anymore. While Wordpress can do many things that Google Sites cannot, it is a lot of work and money wasted on upkeep, and we even had a malware attack through one of our Wordpress sites. Nobody should be using Wordpress in 2023!

Wix, while better than Wordpress, is a pricey service for a nonprofit. And when organizations are outsourcing even Wix site updates, you know there is some money wastage. On the other hand, Google Sites is free and even a child can become proficient in making great sites using it. The choice is clear.

We have helped 2 clients move their Wordpress and Wix sites to Google, greatly easing the financial and access burdens and making it easy for those provided access to make any sort of change to their site, even when on the go.

Transferring Domains from Antiquated Registrars to a Free, Easy-to-Use, Integrated Service

One of our clients whom we helped set up Google Workspace and Google Sites had their domains spread across both Wix and Network Solutions, an antiquated registrar which overcharges for domains. We transferred all of their domains to Google Domains, which made management and configuration of the domains a piece of cake. Furthermore, they charge very fair prices for domains, especially considering how well-integrated and easy-to-use everything becomes when under the Google umbrella.
